Definition of the term, "body text"

body text

Also known as: "page content", "main body text"

The body text on your site refers to the main pieces of content. For example, on this page, the text you are reading just now is the main body text. This definition however refers to body text from a pure copywriting point of view.

In terms of HTML (HyperText Markup Language - the code used to create basic webpages), the main body text is everything between the <body> </body> tags in the code, which would include all the navigation, heading tags, hyperlinks and other elements on your page as well (aka "on page factors").

Either definition is fine for SEO - body text is generally referred to as areas where you will be writing content to include key phrases, and as you can easily include key phrases in your navigation.
