Definition of the term, "Google"Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the search giant Google (http://www.google.com) dominates the search marketplace (by up to 80% market share in certain countries) and for the past few years, changed the face of online marketing. Central to Google's success was the development of core search concept of "PageRank" (http://www.google.com/technology) - a system that "scores" webpages based on the number of links (link popularity) point to the page. The development of PageRank and it's subsequent adoption by the SEO industry meant that success in Google for a long time, was the key focus for many online marketers (and to a certain extent, still is). Success in Google is no longer a simple affair - a love / hate relationship with the search engine optimisation industry means that Google constantly update their ranking algorithm, forcing SEOs to adjust their techniques accordingly. On the flip side of the coin, Google have embraced the SEO industry to a greater extent than any of their rivals and as such have developed excellent marketing tools for the online marketer (Adwords). While success in Google is a core goal for any SEO campaign, it is important to remember that there are other sources of traffic out there - with this in mind, your organic SEO campaign should target all major search engines and not simply focus on Google.
