Definition of the term, "search engine ban"

search engine ban

Also known as: "banned from search engines", "removed from search engines"

Search engines have a tendency not to like it when you try to "game" them and as such they regularly remove websites from their index. This means that the site has become "banned" and none of its pages will rank for any keyphrases. Naturally this is a problem for sites that rely on search engine traffic.

Many businesses who are experimenting with SEO for the first time sometimes find that their site is banned from search engines because either they or their SEO hasn't followed best industry practices.

It is very important to be careful how you approach your SEO efforts - it can take months to have a banned site reinstated into a search engine index, and even then it may not rank as well as it once did.
